Saab Sport 1964
Erik Carlsson "on the roof" won the Monte Carlo Rally twice - in 1962 and 1963. On both occasions he drove a Saab 96. The victories were historic. It was the first time since the thirties someone succeeded in winning two years in a row. Saab´s production version of the rally winning cars was the Saab Sport, eventually called the Monte Carlo 850. When launched in 1962, the Saab Sport succeeded the Saab GT 750. Its three-cylinder, triple-carburettored engine delivered 52 bhp. Disc brakes up front and a lavish interior were other features of this model.
